Tribal Councils Investment Group of Manitoba Ltd. (TCIG) is a founding shareholder in the First Nations Bank of Canada (FNB), a federally chartered financial institution offering comprehensive banking services to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal clients. The bank has its roots in Saskatchewan and has been in operation since the mid 1990s with six branches across Canada, including their newest site in Whitehorse, Yukon. The FNB continues to work toward its vision of being a wholly owned Aboriginal financial institution and along with its current Aboriginal shareholders hopes to fulfill this mandate in the future. TCIG has always recognized the importance of having an Aboriginal Bank with a unique understanding of the banking needs of the population. It is the bank's intention to become a premier financial institution responding to the needs and challenges of Canada's Aboriginal community. TCIG believes that with the right cooperation and effective management, the Aboriginal community may have a bank that they can call their own.
